A Brief History of Harvest Baptist
In 1990 a group of churches from the Empire State Fellowship of Regular Baptist Churches decided to plant a Regular Baptist Church in the Bath area. Peter and Mary Lou Jenks of Baptist Church Planters responded to the call.
On September 9th 1992 the first Bible study was held at the Jenks’ home on Rte 54, one mile north of the present church facility. In July 1993 we became Harvest Baptist Fellowship with Glen Baptist of Watkins Glen as our mother church.
September 11, 1993 Sunday Morning services were started in the Jenks’ garage. The year 1995 brought the addition of evening services on October 15th and in December a purchase offer was made and accepted on the ten acres of property across the road from Ira Davenport Hospital on Rte 54.
On February 24, 1996 a recognition council was convened to go over our constitution and recognize us as a Regular Baptist Church, average attendance at this time was 30 people. In the spring of 1997, the morning worship service was moved to Lakeview Apartments dining hall to accommodate our growth. A building permit was obtained in July of 1998 and a ground breaking ceremony was held on Sunday afternoon on August 2, 1998.
December 4, 1999 the first phase of construction was officially dedicated to the Lord’s service with 150 people in attendance. This construction included a sanctuary to hold 100 worshipers as well as classroom space downstairs. To God’s glory this was accomplished debt free.
In March of 2004 Harvest Baptist Church graduated from mission status to self support. On April 11th of the same year Pastor Alan Lindmark was called as first full time pastor.
On April 22, 2007, with attendance averaging in the eighties, a second ground breaking ceremony was held to begin construction on a new 250 seat sanctuary as well as a large, 300 person capacity fellowship hall. With the help of many of the Lord’s people including Baptist Missionary Builders, the sanctuary portion was completed and services began April 6, 2008, July 16, 2009 we received the final inspection and acquired our Certificate of Occupancy for the newly constructed building.
